China Defeat Defending Champs

The Chinese are doing great so far, now in men's round six of the World Chess Team Championship in Israel, after defeating defending champs Ukraine 2.5 to 1.5 Tuesday morning (Beijing Time).

Ni Hua scored against Alexander Moiseenko while China's other three players all evenly matched their opponents.

Russia defeated Armenia in the same manner, with Evgeny Bareev scoring against Ashot Anastasian.

That leaves China in the lead, half a point ahead of the Russians, but with only five matches played versus Russia's six.

Georgia, after losing horribly to the Chinese in round five, went on to defeat the Cubans in round six; Zurab Azmaiparashvili, together with his compatriot Mikheil Mchedlishvili, played on board one and scored, leading to a final 3-1 result.

The Chinese women's team, however, lost to the USA 4-0.
