California Chess: What is meant by Chess Psychology?

"What is meant by Chess Psychology?

We could examine this question from many angles.

We could look at chess players as a group and try to draw conclusions about their common behaviors.
We could try to understand the appeal of chess, as Reuben Fine did, and apply psychological interpretations, such as the Oedipal desire to kill one's father, to each and every action on the board.

But, most commonly, when talking about chess psychology, we are asking ourselves about the non-objective methods that players use to try to gain some advantage in a purely objective game. "
